An image from new series "Dissonant Jazz Session"
•
When I go on a business trip to Japan or a foreign country, I like to visit famous places and historic sites, but even more than that, I like to walk around the hotel where I am staying. I take a walk for hours with my camera while observing how the city was built, watching people commuting to work, students going to school, and the daily lives of people living there.

Graffiti on the wall, paint that tried to erase the graffiti, patterns of water seeping out from the cracked concrete walls, traces of surveying, old advertisements that are too old to read, torn posters, cities are full of interesting designs that were born unexpectedly because people continue to live.　

The cacophony created by the person who created graffiti and the person who tried to erase it, probably completely strangers, seems like a jazz session. I wanted to participate as an artist in such an unintentional session, and this work became the result.

日本や外国に出張するとき、名所、旧跡に行くのも好きですが、それ以上に滞在しているホテルの周りを歩き回るのが好きです。　街の成り立ちかたを観察したり、通勤する人、通学する学生、そこに住む日々の暮らしを眺めながら、カメラ片手に何時間か散歩します。

　壁の落書き、その落書きを消そうとしたペイント、割れたコンクリート塀から滲み出た水の模様、測量の跡、古く褪せて読み取ることもできない古い広告、破れた張り紙、人が住むゆえに街は不覚にも生まれてしまった面白いデザインで溢れている気がします。　

グラフィティを産んだ者と消去しようとする者、おそらく全く面識のない者たちが作った不協和音は、まるでジャズのセッションのようにも思えます。　そのような意図せず発生したセッションに僕も表現者として参加させて貰おうと思ったのが今回の作品となりました。
